Donald Trump\u2019s speech at the 2026 WEF in Davos lasted more than 70 minutes. As usual, the US president did not hold back on the superlatives. \u201cGrowth is exploding, productivity is surging, investment is soaring, incomes are rising, inflation has been defeated,\u201d he said about the world\u2019s largest economy right at the start of his address. As so often, he also levelled some rather malicious criticism at his predecessor, Joe Biden, and Europe. From a geopolitical standpoint, the USA\u2019s desire to buy the polar island of Greenland was the focus of Trump\u2019s appearance. Here he struck a somewhat more conciliatory tone. \u201cI don't want to use force. I won\u2019t use force,\u201d Trump said, to the relief of his audience. On the capital markets, however, the US president\u2019s flying visit to Switzerland did little to change the prevailing mood that has been in place for some time: investors are steering for \u201csafe havens\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
As the chief representatives of this form of investment, gold and silver reached new highs during and after the WEF. Silver in particular is in demand: since the turn of the year alone, the price of a troy ounce has risen by more than half, with the price exceeding the USD 100 mark for the first time. In addition to its safe haven status, the price is being driven by strong net inflows into physically-backed investment products together with the resulting scarcity of the metal. For those who invest in silver using Swiss francs, there remains one downside, however: they have been unable to fully capitalise on the rally. The fact that the domestic currency is also considered a safe haven is putting a spoke in their wheels. As the franc has appreciated markedly against the US dollar, the currency in which the commodity is traded, the price of silver expressed in Swiss francs is lagging behind the USD price.<\/p>\n\n
Leonteq is addressing this problem with the new Silver CHF Hedged Index. This underlying enables a Swiss franc-denominated exposure to the precious metal in which fluctuations in the index currency against the US dollar are excluded by means of a hedging mechanism. Access to the silver market is gained via futures contracts, with the underlying future being changed every two months. The currency is hedged daily. Despite the strengths outlined, the management fee for the ETP+ on the Silver CHF Hedged Index is just 0.20% p.a. In return for this charge, investors are given an opportunity to play the \u201csilver card\u201d without having to worry about where to keep the precious metal. By the way, Leonteq\u2019s products already include a similarly effective solution for gold. The ETP+ on the Gold CHF Hedged Index has been traded on the two exchanges since autumn 2024.
